Material for Composers day

Dear All,

As you all know, Composers day is on Sep 27th, and we have been given a 15 min slot and have to present krithis composed by Sri Papanasam Sivan.  I have recorded the krithis we are going to present in my voice.  Please see below for the links.  Participants, please keep listening to the recordings repeatedly so you get used to the sangathis.  We are going to be presenting the krithis in C sruthi.

Please note that ALL Carnatic music students who are in Varnam/Krithi level are expected to participate in the event.  Parents/students please let me know ASAP if for some reason you are not able to participate.  Students in Geetham/Swarajathi level, this is a challenge for you all, if you are able to learn the krithis using these recordings and sing them to me, I will make a determination if you are ready to sing with the group.

Good luck to all!  Let us put up an awesome show!

Warmly,

Laya/Tala exercises for Krithi level Carnatic students

Dear Students,

I am very pleased to announce that I have completed the first phase of my project of devising some Laya/Tala exercises for you.  These exercises are meant to help you strengthen your hold on the Laya/Tala aspects and enable you to render rhythmical complexities with ease.

All krithi level students, please download and print this book - https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B2usQL9U958McWRXcFZUUmpmMDA/view?usp=sharing

In this book, I have devised and notated exercises to facilitate practice of 'idam' or 'eduppu' for major talas - Adi, Rupaka Chapu, Mishra Chapu, and Khanda Chapu.  I will teach these exercises in class as well.

Thank you,
Lalit
